The pochampally saree is known as pogudubandu, Chitki
and buddabhashi in Telangana the pochampalli sarees produced, In Telangana is
the one of the best ancient Ikat weaving centers in India, Along with Odisha.
The weaving center during ancient period was in chirala and jentrpeta towns
situated between the Vijayawada and Chennai but it was discontinued for various
reasons. It is popularly known as pochampally, and named that saree after one
of the village where it is produced.the pochampally have its own unique designs,
they are different from other ikat producing area. Now a days most of the
weaving taken place in pochampally area.in pochampally village where there
around five thousand looms producing this textile work.it is the “iconic sareeweaving clusters of India”. the kerchiefs made of silk threas have earned
international fame as “telirumals”.
